What is Cantilever?

Our Sun Garden umbrellas are called a "cantilever umbrella" for it’s offset design. Inspired by the sunflowers natural way of movement towards the sun, Sun Garden umbrellas were engineered to move 360 degrees in a circle and also adjust vertically to adapt to changing sunlight.  If you look below at our umbrella, you'll notice that unlike many other traditional umbrellas that feature a support poll in the center, our main pole is a series of two curves -or cantilevers working together to provide overhead coverage without the support being in the way.

The benefit of cantilever design not only removes the center poll, but allows structural flexibility to absorb wind and weather to avoid damage. It can easily also be moved in the sun like a sunflower does to help with comfort at far better angles, something a traditional umbrella can't do while centered.

How sunflowers move:

A sunflower's flower head faces the sun to absorb the sunlight it needs for photosynthesis. Heliotropism is the term for a plant's ability to follow the sun. That ability allows a sunflower to move with the sun as it arcs across the sky from east to west; the sunflower's bloom always faces the sun.
